Safeguarding and Online Safety Policy

Wisdom Tutors is committed to providing a safe, respectful and supportive online learning environment for all students.

The welfare and protection of children is our highest priority.

This policy outlines the safeguarding principles and online safety measures followed by the Academy.


1. Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to:

  • Protect children participating in our programmes.
  • Promote safe online learning practices.
  • Provide guidance to parents, teachers and students.
  • Establish procedures for responding to safeguarding concerns.

2. Scope

This policy applies to:

  • Students
  • Parents and guardians
  • Teachers
  • Administrative staff
  • Contractors working on behalf of Wisdom Tutors

3. Our Commitment

Wisdom Tutors aims to provide:

  • A safe online educational environment.
  • Respectful interactions between all participants.
  • Age-appropriate learning experiences.
  • Appropriate supervision and safeguarding procedures.

Safeguarding concerns will always be treated seriously and investigated appropriately.


4. Online Learning Environment

Classes are conducted through approved online platforms.

Students are expected to:

  • Use their real first name.
  • Behave respectfully.
  • Follow teacher instructions.
  • Use appropriate language.
  • Participate positively in lessons.

Disruptive or inappropriate behaviour may result in removal from a lesson.


5. Parent Responsibilities

Parents and guardians are responsible for:

  • Providing a safe learning environment at home.
  • Ensuring younger children are appropriately supervised.
  • Maintaining suitable internet access and equipment.
  • Supporting attendance and participation.
  • Raising any safeguarding concerns promptly.

Parents should ensure children understand appropriate online behaviour.


6. Teacher Responsibilities

Teachers must:

  • Maintain professional boundaries.
  • Conduct all teaching through approved Academy systems.
  • Treat students fairly and respectfully.
  • Report safeguarding concerns immediately.
  • Follow Academy safeguarding procedures.

Teachers must not engage in private communications with students outside approved Academy channels.


7. Lesson Recordings

Classes may be recorded for:

  • Safeguarding purposes.
  • Quality assurance.
  • Teacher training.
  • Complaint investigation.
  • Educational review.

Parents acknowledge and consent to lesson recordings when enrolling a child.

Recordings remain the property of Wisdom Tutors.


8. Appropriate Online Conduct

Students must not:

  • Use offensive language.
  • Harass or bully others.
  • Share inappropriate content.
  • Record lessons without permission.
  • Share lesson recordings publicly.
  • Disrupt lessons intentionally.

Parents must not:

  • Abuse teachers or staff.
  • Interfere with lesson delivery.
  • Share confidential information relating to other students.

9. Camera and Learning Expectations

Where requested by the teacher, students may be asked to keep cameras on to support engagement and safeguarding.

Teachers will use reasonable discretion depending on circumstances.

Students should participate from a suitable learning environment wherever possible.


10. Safeguarding Concerns

Any safeguarding concern involving a student will be taken seriously.

Concerns may include:

  • Signs of abuse or neglect.
  • Inappropriate behaviour.
  • Threats to a child’s welfare.
  • Online safety incidents.

Wisdom Tutors reserves the right to investigate concerns and take appropriate action.

Where required, concerns may be referred to relevant authorities or safeguarding agencies.


11. Confidentiality

Safeguarding information will be shared only where necessary.

Information may be disclosed where:

  • Required by law.
  • Necessary to protect a child.
  • Necessary to investigate safeguarding concerns.

Absolute confidentiality cannot be guaranteed where a child’s welfare may be at risk.


12. Reporting Concerns

Parents, students and staff are encouraged to report concerns immediately.

All concerns will be handled sensitively and appropriately.


13. Student Welfare

Our objective is to create an environment where students:

Positive behaviour, kindness and mutual respect are expected from all participants.


14. Review of Policy

This policy will be reviewed periodically and updated where necessary to reflect changes in legislation, technology or Academy procedures.

Updated versions will be published on the Wisdom Tutors website.
